The International Cricket Council has suspended the membership of USA Cricket, a decision made public on Tuesday, impacting the sport’s trajectory in the United States and casting a shadow over its preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The ICC’s decision followed a detailed review process conducted over the last year, involving stakeholder consultations. The governing body cited multiple violations of the ICC constitution by USA Cricket. Key issues included the lack of a robust governance structure and insufficient efforts to achieve recognition as a National Governing Body by the USOPC. The ICC also expressed concern that USA Cricket’s actions had damaged the sport’s reputation both within the USA and on the international stage. The ICC aims to safeguard the long-term prospects of the sport and ensure that cricketers are not adversely affected by this suspension. The ICC will support the development of the USA cricket and their path to a greater presence on the global stage. The ICC or its representatives will take temporary control of the national teams. The Normalisation Committee will monitor progress and guide the organization during this transition, focusing on reforms to governance, administration, and operations.
