
In a remarkable acknowledgment of her cricketing prowess, particularly her heroics in the ODI World Cup, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh has been appointed as a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) within the West Bengal police department. The state government made the announcement on Saturday. At a special event held at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee personally presented Ghosh with her official appointment letter. This grand felicitation also included the conferment of the prestigious Banga Bhushan award upon Ghosh. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) further celebrated her achievements by presenting her with a golden bat and ball, alongside a generous cheque of Rs 34 lakhs, a figure reflecting her vital 34 runs in the World Cup final. Sourav Ganguly, a legendary figure in Indian cricket, commended Ghosh for her fearless batting at number six, highlighting the immense difficulty of her role and her skillful execution. Both Ganguly and the Chief Minister voiced their strong conviction that Richa Ghosh is destined to lead the Indian women’s cricket team as captain. Ghosh shared insights into her mental preparation, emphasizing the importance of setting targets and her eagerness to take on challenging roles for team victory.
