Cristiano Ronaldo has once again etched his name in the annals of football history. On September 6, he surpassed Lionel Messi’s record for the most goals in FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. The Portuguese icon, at the age of 40, showcased his enduring skill and helped Portugal achieve a convincing 5-0 victory against Armenia in Yerevan. Ronaldo’s brace brought his total goals in World Cup qualifying matches to 38, exceeding Messi’s previous mark of 36. He is now close to Carlos Ruiz of Guatemala, who has 39 goals. Further contributing to Portugal’s success was Joao Felix, with a double, and Joao Cancelo, who also scored. Cancelo subsequently paid tribute to his late teammate, Diogo Jota. The victory strengthens Portugal’s position at the top of Group F. Their upcoming match is set for Tuesday against Hungary.
