The Duleep Trophy will launch the 2025–26 domestic cricket season, starting on August 28, 2025. The season will conclude with the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy on April 3, 2026. The Ranji Trophy, a major event in Indian domestic cricket, will begin on October 15, 2025. It will be conducted in two stages: the first from October 15 to November 19, 2025, and the Elite phase from January 22 to February 1, 2026.
Shreyas Iyer will be playing for the West Zone in the Duleep Trophy. The zonal squads are expected to be finalized on Friday afternoon in Mumbai.
Other notable cricketers who have expressed their interest include Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube, and Tushar Deshpande, who have all informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of their availability.
Iyer’s performance was crucial in India’s victory at the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. He also helped Punjab Kings reach the IPL 2025 final, where they were defeated by Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad.
The selectors did not select Iyer for the current Test series in England, opting for Karun Nair, whose recent domestic form was excellent.
Tilak Varma has been appointed captain of the South Zone team, with KL Rahul, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Washington Sundar being left out.
