Sophie Ecclestone, the celebrated English spinner, is taking a break from cricket due to an injury. The bowler, who made her debut on July 3, 2016, against Pakistan in a T20 match, has taken 297 wickets in 177 matches across all formats. The pause in her career is prompted by a quad injury, which needs time to heal.
Coach Charlotte Edwards has confirmed that Ecclestone is currently dealing with a quad injury. She was rested during the West Indies series because of a knee issue. Ecclestone’s coach revealed that the spinner has been experiencing discomfort for a few weeks now. The timeline for her return is uncertain, but the team is providing support. The goal is to ensure that Ecclestone is fit to compete against India. The upcoming series will feature five T20s and three ODIs, with the first match starting on June 28.
The T20 matches will be held on June 28, July 1, July 4, July 9, and July 12 in Nottingham, Bristol, The Oval, Manchester, and Birmingham, respectively. The ODI matches are planned for July 16, 19, and 22 in Southampton, Lord’s, and Chester-le-Street.
