In a unique turn of events, a cricket match at Lord’s was temporarily halted due to an unexpected visitor. This occurred during the opening game of a new cricket league that began after the India-England Test series in London. The league features global talent. The game was paused not due to rain or injury, but because of a fox. The animal’s presence on the field caused a brief interruption as it made several laps around the pitch before exiting, which then allowed play to resume.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 5, during the initial match of The Hundred 2025 (Men’s) at Lord’s. The competing teams were London Spirit and Oval Invincibles, the previous champions. As the fox ran across the field, the audience reacted with amusement. The play was stopped for about a minute while the fox was on the field. Daniel Worrall, a fast bowler for London Spirit, was about to bowl when the fox’s appearance became the highlight.
Stuart Broad and Eoin Morgan, who were commentating, couldn’t hide their amusement. Sky Sports Cricket shared a video of the fox running on the field, which quickly gained widespread attention on social media. After moving around the ground, the fox left the field, and the match continued.
In the first innings, London Spirit scored only 80 runs after losing all wickets in 94 balls. Oval Invincibles’ bowlers, Rashid Khan and Sam Curran, delivered a superb performance, dismantling the London Spirit batting order, which comprised of star players such as David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Ashton Turner. Rashid and Sam Curran both took three wickets. Jordan Clark got two wickets. Chasing the target, Oval Invincibles won the match, scoring the required runs for the loss of four wickets in 69 balls. Rashid Khan was named Player of the Match for his excellent bowling.
