The Australian domestic cricket scene has been enriched by the emergence of Nivethan Radhakrishnan, a talented spinner of Indian descent. Radhakrishnan, who hails from Chennai but moved to Sydney in 2013, is known for his unique ability to bowl with either hand. He was a part of the Australian squad for the 2022 Under-19 World Cup. Radhakrishnan’s admiration for Indian cricket icons, particularly Ravichandran Ashwin and Nathan Lyon, is evident. He recently spoke about his progress as a professional cricketer, highlighting areas where he’s improved and aspects he’s still working on. His bowling style seeks to emulate the consistency of Ashwin and Jadeja, incorporating a range of speeds and deliveries. When bowling right-handed, he looks to Nathan Lyon for inspiration. He recently returned to Chennai as part of a program that brought 12 Australian players to the MRF Academy in India. The objective was to give young Australian cricketers – batsmen, wicketkeepers, and spinners – experience of Indian conditions. During the tour, he scored 59 runs and took a wicket against Saurashtra, with the tour ending on August 13th.
