October 2nd marked a historic day for Bangladesh cricket, with the team achieving victories against both Pakistan and Afghanistan. This feat highlighted the team’s diverse capabilities, winning in both women’s and men’s cricket formats. The women’s team’s triumph over Pakistan in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in Colombo set the tone for the day. The men’s team then continued the winning streak, defeating Afghanistan in the first T20 match of the series in Sharjah.
In the ODI World Cup match, Bangladesh’s women’s team demonstrated their dominance against Pakistan. The men’s team then replicated this performance, securing a victory in the T20 series opener by successfully chasing the target, with 7 wickets and 13 balls remaining.
In the initial match of the 3-match T20 series, Afghanistan opted to bat first, accumulating 151 runs for the loss of 9 wickets within their allocated 20 overs. Subsequently, Bangladesh, tasked with chasing 152 runs, witnessed a promising start fueled by a strong opening partnership. The opening batsmen collaboratively amassed 109 runs, both achieving half-centuries. Tanzid Hasan scored 51 runs off 37 balls, while Parvez Hossain Emon contributed 54 runs off 37 deliveries.
However, following the breakup of the opening partnership, Bangladesh faced a significant setback, losing 6 wickets for just 9 runs. Rashid Khan played a pivotal role in this collapse, with the Afghan captain claiming 4 wickets for 18 runs within 4 overs.
Despite this late-innings collapse, Nurul Hasan and Rishad Hossain steadied the ship, guiding their team to victory. Nurul Hasan finished with 23 runs not out, and Rishad Hossain scored 14 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon was named the man of the match for his innings of 54 runs. This victory gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20 series.
