In a landmark moment for IPL fan engagement, Punjab Kings (PBKS) has officially claimed the title of the most-searched IPL team on Google for 2025. This achievement positions PBKS ahead of perennial favorites like Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), showcasing a significant shift in digital fandom. The franchise’s online popularity extends globally, ranking fourth among the world’s most-searched sports teams, underscoring its growing international brand recognition.
The IPL 2025 season proved to be a turning point for Punjab Kings, culminating in their first final appearance since 2014. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team’s consistent performance and exciting journey to the championship match, despite a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, captured the attention of a global audience. This heightened interest was further amplified by major pre-season strategies, including the acquisition of Shreyas Iyer for a staggering Rs 26.75 crore, the recruitment of experienced coach Ricky Ponting, and the addition of impactful players like Yuzvendra Chahal. These factors combined to create a sustained surge in search queries. The team’s commercial leadership attributes this success to their focus on cultivating a brand that fosters deep emotional connections with fans. Chief Commercial Officer Saurabh Arora emphasized that the team’s narrative, celebrated culture, and core identity are key drivers of this fan engagement, leading to a sense of investment and curiosity that extends beyond just match results.
