Magnus Carlsen has once again won the Norway Chess tournament, taking his seventh title in Stavanger. The closing day provided high drama, particularly for D Gukesh of India, who was a strong contender until the final round. However, he was defeated by US Grandmaster Fabiano Caruana.
Gukesh fought hard to draw the match. With little time left on the clock, he made an error which led to his defeat.
Carlsen, who had faced another young Indian player, Arjun Erigaisi, managed a draw. This result allowed him to secure the tournament victory with 16 points. Carlsen’s consistently strong performance, combined with Gukesh’s loss, secured his win.
Caruana’s victory against Gukesh placed him in second place. Gukesh was in third position. Arjun Erigaisi ranked fifth in the final standings.
