The stage is set for the latter stages of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, with key venue confirmations following South Africa’s triumph over Pakistan. Pakistan’s defeat in Colombo officially signals their exit from the tournament, ending their campaign as the sole winless team after six matches.
In a rain-affected encounter at the R Premadasa Stadium, South Africa defeated Pakistan convincingly. The Proteas Women posted a substantial total of 312/9 in their 40 overs. Notable performances included half-centuries from Laura Wolvaardt, Sune Luus, and Marizanne Kapp, complemented by Nadine de Klerk’s explosive 41 off 16 balls, which provided a strong finish.
The match was further shortened due to weather delays, and South Africa narrowly managed to complete the required overs for a DLS calculation. They ultimately won the match by 150 runs, cementing their position and simultaneously eliminating Pakistan from semifinal contention. Pakistan’s journey ends with only two points, earned from abandoned matches.
With Pakistan out of the running, the tournament organizers have confirmed the venues for the knockout stages. The first semifinal is set to be held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The grand finale of the Women’s World Cup 2025 will take place at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The second semifinal was already scheduled for Navi Mumbai.
It’s worth noting that Colombo held a provisional status for hosting all knockout matches had Pakistan qualified. This scenario was dependent on an agreement ensuring neutral venues for matches involving the two nations in global tournaments, a protocol established prior to the Champions Trophy 2025.
