Wanindu Hasaranga is set to participate in the Asia Cup 2025, having been named in Sri Lanka’s squad. The tournament will be held in the UAE starting September 9th. However, he will not be traveling with the team for the Zimbabwe tour, which starts on Friday with the first ODI in Harare and comprises one more ODI and three T20Is.
Hasaranga’s inclusion is despite a hamstring injury picked up during Sri Lanka’s series loss against Bangladesh. The Asia Cup squad also features young players Kamil Mishara and Nuwanidu Fernando.
Sri Lanka’s squad includes spin-bowling options like Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana. Following their defeat to India in the 2023 Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Their group stage fixtures are against Bangladesh on September 13, Hong Kong on September 15, and Afghanistan on September 18 before the Super Four stage.
