The rise in IPL ticket prices could lead to a decrease in the number of fans attending matches in stadiums. While IPL matches attract large crowds, the increased ticket costs might deter some fans. This could potentially affect the popularity of the IPL. Notably, GST is not applied to tickets for recognized sports events. If a ticket for a recognized sports event costs ₹500, no GST will be levied, but tickets priced higher than that will attract an 18% GST. Furthermore, the GST Council has also decided to impose a 40% GST on activities such as betting, gambling, lotteries, horse racing, and online money gaming.
