Ahead of the highly anticipated five-match Test series between India and England, a notable change has been made. The Pataudi Trophy, which has been the symbol of this cricketing rivalry since 2007, is now known as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. This change has sparked discussions, with former Indian captain Kapil Dev offering his perspective.
At a special event in Tunbridge Wells, celebrating his remarkable 175-run innings in the 1983 World Cup, Kapil Dev shared his thoughts on the renaming. He said, “It feels a bit strange. Does something like this really happen? But it’s fine everything goes on in cricket. After all, it doesn’t really matter. Cricket is cricket, and it should remain the same on the field.” The original Pataudi Trophy was named to honor Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s contributions to cricket. While the trophy’s name has been updated, the Pataudi legacy will be carried forward through the Pataudi Medal, presented to the victorious captain.
