The upcoming India-Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, has sparked significant debate, with many advocating for a boycott. The heightened emotions are a reaction to the recent Pahalgam Attack. The BCCI, through secretary Devajit Saikia, has responded to the concerns and clarified the reasons behind India’s participation. Saikia stated that the decision aligns with the central government’s policy regarding multinational competitions. He explained that boycotting such a tournament would undermine India’s ability to host future international events. He emphasized the difference between bilateral and multilateral events, stating that a boycott is not possible in multinational competitions. Saikia also mentioned that not participating in such tournaments would negatively impact India’s bid for the 2030 Olympics and lead to sanctions against Indian sports federations. The BCCI is following government guidelines, which encourage participation in multinational events to benefit the broader sporting community.
