India’s women’s cricket team has etched their name in history by winning the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in a thrilling final in Navi Mumbai. This is the first time the Women in Blue have lifted the coveted ODI World Cup trophy, a moment of immense pride and celebration for the nation after several near misses. The victory is expected to significantly boost the profile and development of women’s cricket in India.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, speaking after the monumental win, articulated the team’s vision for the future. “We just want to keep improving every day, just want to keep giving our best,” she said, underscoring the aspiration to make winning ICC tournaments a norm rather than an exception.
The team’s international commitments resume in February 2026 with an extensive tour to Australia. This tour, running from February 15 to March 9, will feature three T20 Internationals, three One Day Internationals, and a one-off Test.
Following their stint in Australia, the players will participate in the Women’s Premier League. Subsequently, India will travel to England for a series of three T20Is, scheduled from May 28 to June 2, 2026.
The next major ICC tournament on the women’s cricket calendar is the T20 World Cup, also set to be held in England. This premier event will kick off on June 12, 2026, culminating in the final at Lord’s on July 5. The T20 World Cup offers India a prime opportunity to extend their winning streak and add another global title to their burgeoning legacy.
