The Indian cricket team’s fielding has drawn criticism, with Nasser Hussain adding his voice to Ravi Shastri’s assessment. Hussain observed that India’s performance in the field allowed England to remain competitive, especially during the final session of Day 3. He felt that India’s batting dominance should have put more pressure on England, but fielding lapses prevented this from happening.
India’s fielders were responsible for giving opportunities to Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Harry Brook over the course of Day 2 and 3, which enabled England to amass 465 runs, leaving India with a slim lead of six runs.
“I think India will be a little disappointed,” Hussain stated, referencing India’s batting collapse. “They had a collapse of 7-41 in their innings and the England score should then have been a lot less.”
“That last little session tonight was vital for them in that they didn’t let England back into the game even more,” he added.
Day 3 saw Jasprit Bumrah take 5/83, helping to dismiss England for 465, with India leading by six runs. Ollie Pope scored 106 and Harry Brook scored 99. Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj took three and two wickets, respectively, for India. India’s second innings saw Yashasvi Jaiswal dismissed early, but a strong 66-run partnership between Rahul and Sudharsan helped India reach 90 for 2 at stumps, extending their lead to 96 runs.
