Washington Sundar has voiced the need for a positive mindset within the Indian camp after a significant batting collapse led to a large first-innings deficit against South Africa in the second Test. India was bowled out for a paltry 201, granting South Africa a commanding 314-run lead. Despite the dire situation, Sundar remained optimistic, saying, ‘You never know what will happen.’
The Indian batting order faltered against a relentless Proteas bowling unit, with questionable shot selection contributing to their downfall. Captain Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel’s aggressive attempts at the crease ended in dismissals, but Sundar defended their intent. ‘On another day, both those shots would have gone into the stands,’ he pointed out during the post-day media interaction. He stressed that while the execution was not ideal, the players’ plans and skills are usually sound. Sundar also shared his contentment with batting at any position for the team, highlighting the tactical nature of Test cricket.
