World No. 1 Jannik Sinner began his Cincinnati Open journey with a strong display, defeating Daniel Elahi Galan 6-1, 6-1 in a swift 59 minutes. This victory showcased the Italian’s intent to contend for the title, advancing him to the next round.
Returning to the circuit after his victory over Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon, Sinner demonstrated his skills on the hard courts. He transitioned from grass to hard court effortlessly, displaying strategic ball-striking and aggressive baseline play.
Sinner’s dominance was clear in the first set, where he surged to a 5-0 lead within the opening 15 minutes, challenging Galan, who is ranked 144th in the world. The 23-year-old carried this performance into the second set, securing a break and three aces, resulting in the quickest win of his ATP Tour career.
Following the match, Sinner shared his thoughts, acknowledging the challenges of playing in Cincinnati while also expressing satisfaction with his performance. He commented, “I didn’t know what to expect. I am happy because it’s not easy to play here. The ball is flying, and you have to serve very precisely if you want to go far in the tournament.”
This win represents Sinner’s 22nd consecutive victory on hard courts, dating back to his loss against Alcaraz in Beijing last September. Since his triumph in Cincinnati in 2024, Sinner has maintained a remarkable 48-2 record in major events, solidifying his reputation as a top player.
Sinner is now set to face Gabriel Diallo from Canada in the round of 32, with his focus firmly set on defending his title.
