The professional wrestling world is bracing itself for the departure of John Cena, one of the industry’s most celebrated performers. With only ten matches remaining, Cena, the face of WWE for nearly two decades, is preparing to retire, with his final match slated for December 13, 2025. This exit culminates a farewell tour that has been nothing short of remarkable.
Cena has embraced his final year with energy, providing fans with a combination of nostalgia, shocking moments, and touching displays since announcing his retirement at Money In The Bank 2024. He narrowly missed winning the Royal Rumble in January and claimed victory in his Elimination Chamber match in March, highlighting his enduring presence.
One of the most unexpected twists was Cena’s heel turn, a first in over 20 years, as he aligned with The Rock to betray Cody Rhodes. While the storyline was not fully developed, the incident quickly went viral and is regarded as one of the most shocking moments of his career.
The heel phase set the stage for Cena’s WrestleMania main event victory over Rhodes, which resulted in his record-breaking 17th World Championship. This was followed by title defenses against old rivals Randy Orton and CM Punk, along with a surprise tag-team partnership with Logan Paul. These instances revealed Cena’s adaptability, even in his final moments.
WWE decided to conclude his heel run prior to SummerSlam, reinstating Cena’s beloved babyface persona for a rematch against Rhodes. Even though he fell short in that match, it set the stage for another major event: a showdown with Brock Lesnar, who returned after a two-year hiatus.
Before facing Lesnar, Cena will face Logan Paul at Clash in Paris on August 31. At SmackDown in Dublin, Cena appeared deeply emotional during his entrance, visibly moved by the fans’ applause. He delivered a fiery promo, calling Paul “a parasite” who exploits WWE for his personal brand before dramatically destroying Paul’s Prime Hydration Station.
Despite the show of strength, Cena revealed his biggest regret: the missed opportunity to share the ring with Dominik Mysterio, AJ Styles, Seth Rollins, The Usos, and Jacob Fatu before his retirement.
As December approaches, the wrestling community is preparing to salute a man who defined an era. John Cena’s farewell tour is not just a final run; it is a celebration of a career that went beyond wrestling and touched millions.
