The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry produced another exciting chapter in the Women’s World Cup 2025, with India continuing its dominance. This victory, India’s fifth consecutive win over Pakistan in the tournament, was largely due to the stellar performance of 22-year-old Kranti Goud, who was playing in her debut World Cup.
Kranti Goud’s impact on the match was significant, particularly with the ball. Her contribution began with some crucial runs during India’s batting innings, including a boundary in the 49th over and another in the 50th. Yet, it was her bowling that truly stood out.
Bowling alongside Renuka Singh with the new ball, Kranti consistently troubled the Pakistani batters. She took her first wicket in the 8th over, dismissing Sadaf Shams, and soon after claimed the wicket of Alia Riaz in the 12th. When India needed another breakthrough, it was again the Madhya Pradesh pacer who delivered.
With the Pakistani partnership building, captain Harmanpreet Kaur brought Kranti back into the attack, and she responded immediately, removing Natalia Pervaiz with her first delivery. Kranti finished with impressive figures of 3 wickets for just 20 runs from 10 overs, earning her the Player of the Match award.
Kranti’s story is a testament to the resilience of women in India, reflecting the challenges many face. She overcame societal expectations, and faced criticism for playing cricket, like many other girls who are discouraged from participating in sports. From her village in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, Kranti, the youngest of six, is currently the most celebrated person from her village. She and her family endured harsh criticism for her cricketing aspirations. Their choices were questioned.
However, Kranti’s family was supportive. Inspired by the cricket played by boys in her village, especially their fast bowling, she developed a strong passion for the sport. Before receiving coaching, she displayed her talent in a local tournament.
In an interview, Kranti shared how she was asked to play in a local tournament when one team was short of players. Kranti played, taking 3 wickets and scoring 25 runs, earning her the Player of the Match award. This success was noticed by coach Rajiv Bilthare, who then helped Kranti become the player who later dismantled Pakistan in Colombo.
