Daniel Levy has explained Tottenham Hotspur’s decision to sack Ange Postecoglou, despite the club’s Europa League triumph. The board collectively decided on June 6, 2025, that Postecoglou would no longer be the manager, with the victory not influencing the decision. Levy acknowledged the importance of the Europa League win but stressed the need to win the Premier League, which Tottenham last won in 1961. Thomas Frank is the manager the club is targeting to achieve this.
Levy reflected on the win, stating, “You saw the outpouring of emotion with the parade. It was just incredible. We’ve won a European trophy.” However, he then added, “But it’s not enough. It’s what we haven’t done that is more important. We need to win the league. We want to win the Premier League. We want to win the Champions League. We want to win.”
Levy highlighted his resolve and stated that failure was not an option. He expressed gratitude towards Postecoglou. He stated, “I’m very grateful to Ange. I don’t regret appointing Ange. In his first season we finished fifth and in our second season we were over the moon to win the trophy.”
He emphasized that the club needed to compete in all competitions, leading to the change. He said the decision was made collectively and that he has a positive relationship with Postecoglou. Levy expressed excitement about a fresh start with a new coach and building upon the previous season’s success. Levy praised Thomas Frank’s qualities, including his intelligence and communication abilities.
