Australia’s white-ball squad is set to embark on a tour of South Africa, and all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is on the verge of a unique accomplishment in T20I cricket. With only four wickets separating him from 50 T20I wickets, Maxwell is close to entering an exclusive group of cricketers who have amassed over 2,500 runs and taken at least 50 wickets in the format.
An exclusive T20I club awaits. Should Maxwell achieve this, he will become one of only four players in T20I history to achieve the impressive double of 2,500+ runs and 50+ wickets. The current members of this elite group are:
Player, Country, Runs, Wickets, Matches
Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh, 2,551, 149, 129
Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan, 2,514, 61, 119
Virandeep Singh, Malaysia, 3,013, 97, 102
Maxwell’s T20I career is already decorated; he stands as Australia’s third-leading run-scorer in the format, having scored 2,754 runs in 121 games (111 innings). He averages 29.29 with a striking rate of 156.03. His T20I stats include five centuries and 11 half-centuries, with his highest score being 145 not out.
He has also proven his worth with the ball, claiming 46 wickets at an average of 30.08, his best figures being 3/10. Taking four more wickets will see him enshrined in the T20I record books.
In the current 2025 season, Maxwell has played in five T20Is, scoring 90 runs at an average of 18.00 while boasting an incredible strike rate exceeding 195. His top score this year is 47. With the ball, he has averaged 21.00, with best figures of 2/15.
The Australian team will kick off their white-ball tour of South Africa on August 10, featuring three T20Is followed by three ODIs. Fans will be watching Glenn Maxwell with anticipation, not only for his explosive batting but also for the historic milestone that reflects his exceptional all-round performance in the T20 format.
