In a landmark achievement for Australian cricket, Mitchell Starc has become the most prolific left-arm fast bowler in the history of Test cricket. The experienced quick achieved this feat on Day 1 of the ongoing second Ashes Test in Brisbane, taking his 415th Test wicket to move past the legendary Wasim Akram’s record of 414. Starc reached this incredible tally in his 102nd Test match, demonstrating remarkable consistency and skill over a distinguished career. He made his Test debut at this very venue back in 2011. Starc’s consistent form places him among an elite group of bowlers, having taken at least 350 Test wickets since 2015, a list that includes Nathan Lyon and Ravichandran Ashwin. Currently ranked 16th in the all-time Test wicket-takers list, Starc is set to challenge higher positions, with Sir Richard Hadlee’s record within reach later in the series. He provided Australia with an explosive start in the match, claiming two early wickets.
