The Major League Cricket (MLC) franchise, MI New York, has appointed Nicholas Pooran as its captain for the 2025 season. This follows Pooran’s recent retirement from international cricket with the West Indies. He replaces Kieron Pollard, a well-known figure in the T20 arena, in the leadership role.
Pooran represented the West Indies in 167 matches across all formats, including a record 106 T20 Internationals, the most by any West Indian player. He retires as the team’s leading run-scorer in T20Is, with a total of 2,275 runs. Pooran had already opted out of the recent T20I series against England, preferring to rest after the IPL 2025 season. He set a new world record in 2024, hitting 170 sixes in a calendar year. In IPL 2025, he scored 524 runs at a striking rate of 196.25, including five half-centuries. His last appearance in West Indies colors was in a T20I against Bangladesh in December 2024. His last ODI appearance was in July 2023, and he never played Test cricket for the West Indies.
