A significant fine has been imposed on the Pakistan cricket squad for a slow over-rate offense during their first ODI encounter against Sri Lanka. The International Cricket Council confirmed a 20% match fee fine for the Men in Green. The infraction took place during the match on November 11th in Rawalpindi, where Pakistan emerged victorious. Following the game, the match referee determined that Pakistan had bowled four overs less than required within the game’s timeframe, which consequently extended the match to four hours. This breach of regulations, specifically Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, mandates a 5% fine for each over shortfall. The penalty also affected gameplay, requiring an extra fielder inside the 30-yard circle after the 46th over. Skipper Shaheen Afridi readily accepted the charge, dispensing with the need for further proceedings.
