
India made a strong start at the 2025 Para World Championships in New Delhi, with Shailesh Kumar winning gold in the Men’s T42/64 High Jump. His record-breaking jump of 1.91m set a new championship record and also surpassed the Asian record. Varun Bhati took the bronze medal in the same event. Deepthi Jeevanji secured a silver medal in the Women’s 400m T20 Final, with a season-best time of 55.16 seconds. The championship is being held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium from September 27 to October 5, with over 2,200 para-athletes participating. The event is a major qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympics. The stadium, originally built for the 1982 Asian Games, was renovated for the 2010 Commonwealth Games and has a seating capacity of 60,000.
