Prithvi Shaw, a Mumbai opener, has formally informed the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) of his desire to leave the state team and play for another team in domestic cricket as a ‘professional’ player. He has requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the MCA to facilitate this move.
A source within the MCA confirmed that they will soon decide on Shaw’s request. This follows a period of challenges for Shaw with Mumbai, including fitness and form concerns. In October, the MCA’s selection panel asked Shaw to complete a fitness course, emphasizing the need for weight loss. However, his fitness did not improve, resulting in his exclusion from both the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy squads. Shaw’s departure would be a significant change, especially for a player who once led India to a U19 World Cup victory and was a rising star in Mumbai cricket.
