In a remarkable display of appreciation, the West Bengal government has appointed star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh as a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) in the state police. This honor follows her outstanding performances throughout the Women’s ODI World Cup campaign. The official appointment letter was presented to Ghosh by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during a vibrant felicitation event at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The state government also recognized Ghosh with the distinguished Banga Bhushan award. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) marked the occasion by gifting her a golden bat and ball, accompanied by a substantial cheque of Rs 34 lakhs. This monetary award was directly linked to her impactful score of 34 runs in the World Cup final. Echoing the sentiment of admiration, former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly spoke highly of Ghosh’s batting performance, emphasizing the difficulty of her role at number six and her masterful handling of challenging game situations and steep run chases. Ganguly and Chief Minister Banerjee both shared their conviction that Ghosh possesses the leadership qualities to captain the Indian women’s cricket team. Ghosh shared her approach to performance, stating that setting goals during practice and relishing tough match situations are key to her game and contributing to victories.
