The SA20 2025-26 auction delivered some unexpected results, with several high-profile players remaining unsold. Temba Bavuma, the captain who led South Africa to an ICC title after a long drought, was not selected by any team. Despite a recent World Test Championship win and his leadership, his previous performance in the SA20, with only 85 runs in 5 matches, might have influenced the decision.
James Anderson, England’s legendary fast bowler, also didn’t find a team. The veteran, who holds the record for most Test wickets by a fast bowler, was also overlooked in the IPL 2025. His recent form, including a stint with Manchester Originals in The Hundred 2025 where he took only two wickets, could be a factor.
Moeen Ali, the English all-rounder, joins the list of unsold players. Ali, who played in the IPL 2025 for Kolkata Knight Riders, has not been in top form lately, possibly leading to this outcome. He is currently playing in the CPL 2025.
Former England opener Jason Roy also failed to get a contract. His performance in The Hundred 2025, where he represented Southern Brave, was not strong enough to attract bidders, managing only 198 runs in 8 matches.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the Afghan wicketkeeper-batsman, was another notable name to go unsold. His recent form, including a disappointing IPL 2025 and previous SA20 season, may have contributed to this. He scored only 132 runs in his last 10 T20Is and 74 runs in 5 IPL 2025 matches.
Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladeshi fast bowler, was also left out. Despite playing in the IPL 2025 for Delhi Capitals and expressing interest, he did not receive any bids. Rahman represents Bangladesh in all formats of cricket.
