SA20 commissioner Graeme Smith has expressed a strong desire to feature more Indian players in the upcoming seasons of the T20 league. Confirming the dates for the 2025-26 edition, Smith announced it will commence on December 26, 2025, and conclude on January 25, 2026, thus altering South Africa’s traditional Boxing Day Test slot. Speaking in Mumbai, Smith recognized the global appeal and high caliber of Indian cricketers. He indicated that the SA20 management is working closely with the BCCI to find opportunities for Indian players within the established rules. Currently, the participation of active Indian players in overseas leagues is restricted by the BCCI, with Dinesh Karthik being the only Indian to have played in the SA20 so far. Smith believes that the ownership of SA20 franchises by IPL teams creates a favorable environment for attracting Indian talent if policies evolve. He also highlighted that franchises prioritize signing top-performing players to ensure competitiveness.
