The Indian Test team is in a period of transition, with new players being integrated following the retirements of senior players. Sai Sudharsan is one such player, who is currently struggling to establish himself in the team, with his recent failure in the first Test against the West Indies raising concerns.
In the Ahmedabad Test, after dismissing the West Indies for 162 runs, India began their innings. While Jaiswal and Rahul provided a good start, Sudharsan, batting at number three, was unable to capitalize and was dismissed for only 7 runs.
This was Sudharsan’s fourth Test match and seventh innings, where he failed to convert his start. Having debuted during the England tour, Sudharsan has been unable to make a significant impact. He has scored only 147 runs in seven innings at an average of 21, including just one half-century.
These stats are not encouraging for the Indian team and raise serious questions about Sudharsan’s place. While he is new to Test cricket, and the challenges are higher in international cricket, his performances will need to improve rapidly. With many talented alternatives available, his position is not secure.
Sudharsan faces the prospect of limited opportunities in the upcoming tests, and failure to perform could lead to his omission from the team for the South Africa series.
