Team India clinched the final Test against England in an exhilarating match, tying the five-match series at 2-2. The hosts appeared to be on the brink of victory, but the outstanding performances of fast bowlers Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna denied them the win. During the Oval Test’s final day, Siraj took 3 wickets, preventing England from securing the series. Captain Shubman Gill later disclosed in a press conference how Siraj’s haste nearly put the Indian team at a disadvantage.
England required 35 runs to win in the final innings of the Oval Test, with four wickets left. Siraj was eager to take wickets, as evidenced by his actions. Captain Shubman Gill shared the details of the incident.
The incident occurred when the final batting pair of Gus Atkinson and Chris Woakes were at the crease. Before the last ball of the 84th over, Siraj intended to bowl a wide yorker. He signaled to captain Shubman Gill to ask wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel to remove a glove. However, by the time Gill attempted to convey the message, Siraj had already begun his run-up, leaving Jurel with no time to comply. The ball was played and went into Jurel’s gloves, and yet the batsmen managed to steal a run. Jurel then attempted to run out Chris Woakes but was unable to do so. This was revealed by Gill during the press conference.
Gill explained that by the time he tried to relay Siraj’s message to Jurel, Siraj had already initiated his run-up, leaving Jurel with no time to remove his glove. When the batsmen completed a run, Siraj approached Gill, asking why he hadn’t instructed Jurel to remove his glove. At the press conference, Siraj, who was alongside Gill, responded with a laugh. The press conference also touched upon the close relationship between Siraj and Gill.
Siraj shared that he and Gill share a great relationship. They have played together for a long time, including in the Indian Premier League, and have a good understanding. He expressed his happiness about Gill’s progress. In the Oval Test, Siraj took three wickets, ensuring a thrilling 6-run win for India and the series ended in a 2-2 tie.
