Cricket analyst and former Indian player Dinesh Karthik has shared his perspective on Shubman Gill’s suitability to captain the Test team, with the England series serving as his first major test. Karthik expressed doubts about Gill’s current understanding of the demands of Test captaincy. He emphasized the challenges of playing Test matches in England, where even well-established teams have faltered. Karthik believes that England’s bowling attack presents a potential opening for India. Gill’s Test career features a strong record of 1,893 runs from 51 innings, averaging 35.05. This includes five centuries and seven half-centuries, reflecting his ability to perform at a high level in the format.
