Sourav Ganguly, former captain of India and current BCCI president, weighed in on the ongoing Test series between India and England, expressing his view that the Indian team missed Virat Kohli’s contributions. Ganguly believes that Kohli, who retired from Test cricket recently, would have added to the team’s run total in England. He expressed that he was surprised by Kohli’s retirement, given his expectation that the star player’s fitness would allow him to continue playing at a high level. Ganguly feels that Kohli would have scored runs if he had been part of the series.
“As a player, you understand where he stands at the moment,” Ganguly explained. “Just look at Virat. I know he didn’t have the best five years in Test cricket but champions like him rediscover. And I guarantee that if he was on this tour of England, he would have scored runs. But he felt it was time to go.”
Virat Kohli’s Test career is impressive, with 9230 runs in 123 innings, averaging 46.85, and a strike rate of 55.57. He has 30 centuries, 31 half-centuries, and a top score of 254 not out, demonstrating his impact on the game.
