
The South African cricket team commenced their ODI series against England with a resounding 7-wicket triumph at Headingley on September 2. England’s batting collapsed, resulting in a score of only 131 runs in under 25 overs. Jamie Smith was the sole player to offer a significant contribution, scoring 54 runs. The South African bowlers, including Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder, effectively dismantled the English batting order. In response, Aiden Markram delivered a stellar performance, scoring 86 runs off 55 balls, and supported by Ryan Rickelton. South Africa comfortably reached the target of 132 in 20.5 overs, finishing at 137/3. The Proteas now lead the series 1-0, setting the stage for an exciting remainder of the series.
