Bangladesh’s Test captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, has stepped down following his team’s defeat to Sri Lanka. The series concluded with Sri Lanka winning 1-0 after a comprehensive victory in the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground. Bangladesh lost by an innings and 78 runs. In the post-match press conference, Shanto announced his decision to resign, stating that he was stepping down for the good of the team. In the final match, Bangladesh struggled with the bat. Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka’s superb batting performance, supported by other key contributions, set the foundation for their victory. The Sri Lankan bowlers, particularly Prabath Jayasuriya, further solidified their win by dismantling the Bangladesh batting order.
