Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has underscored the importance of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup. He believes their experience is crucial for the team, especially in mentoring young players and developing future leaders. The two cricket legends have already stepped away from the Test and T20 formats. Their last appearance was at the Champions Trophy 2025 in the ODI format, which took place in March; since then, they have not featured in any international matches. Raina stressed that their presence in the 50-over format is vital for the development of younger players. Speculation is growing that Kohli and Sharma may return to international cricket during India’s tour of Australia later this year, as the Asia Cup in the T20I format approaches. Raina stated that the experience of Rohit and Virat is very important, adding that it is crucial for senior players to stay involved with the juniors, with Shubman Gill in particular needing their guidance. He further added that they have won the Champions Trophy and World Cups, and their leadership qualities are essential. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have made it clear that they are aiming to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup, with their fitness and place in the squad being monitored by the BCCI.
