The T20 World Cup 2026 will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The tournament will feature 20 teams, similar to the previous edition. The ICC has ramped up preparations for this significant tournament. The T20 World Cup 2026 is set to occur from February to March, and the tentative dates are now public. The venue for the final match, however, is still under consideration.
Reports indicate that the 2026 T20 World Cup will be held from February 7th to March 8th. The matches will be played across a minimum of five venues in India and two in Sri Lanka. The specific venues for each match are still to be decided. The ICC is finalizing the schedule and has shared the timeframe with the participating nations.
The location of the T20 World Cup 2026 final is yet to be determined. There are reports suggesting that the final match could be played in either Ahmedabad or Colombo. The choice of venue depends on whether Pakistan advances to the final. If Pakistan qualifies for the final, the match will not be played in India. The strained political relationship between India and Pakistan prevents them from competing in each other’s countries.
Fifteen teams have already secured qualification for the T20 World Cup 2026. These include India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, USA, West Indies, New Zealand, Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, Netherlands, and Italy. The remaining five teams will qualify through two African qualifiers and three Asia and East Asia-Pacific qualifiers. The tournament will follow the format used in the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 20 teams will be split into four groups of five. The top two teams from each group will progress to the Super 8 stage, which will then be followed by knockout matches.
