Rio Ngumoha delivered a stunning performance, scoring a crucial late goal to secure a 3-2 Premier League win for Liverpool against Newcastle. The goal, scored deep into stoppage time, sealed all three points for Liverpool. The victory continued Liverpool’s strong start to the season under Arne Slot, with two wins in a row. The win was a result of several key performances, including goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Hugo Ekitike. However, Ngumoha’s late goal ensured Liverpool’s winning streak continued. The goal marks Ngumoha’s entry into an exclusive club of players who have scored in the Premier League at the age of 16. This achievement puts him in the same bracket as footballing legends who also began their careers at a similar young age, signifying his significant potential. Prior to Ngumoha, only three players had scored in the Premier League before their 17th birthday: James Vaughan, James Milner, and Wayne Rooney. Rio Ngumoha is a young English footballer of Nigerian descent. He has represented England at various youth levels, including U-15, U-16, and U-17. He is known for his creative play and skill, primarily operating as an attacking midfielder or winger, and is admired for his maturity at such a young age. Before joining Liverpool, Ngumoha spent eight years in Chelsea’s academy. His transfer to Liverpool reportedly led to frustration at Chelsea, who viewed him as a ‘generational talent.’ Ngumoha debuted for Liverpool in January 2025, appearing as a substitute in an FA Cup victory over Accrington Stanley. At 16 years and 135 days old, he became the youngest player to represent Liverpool in the FA Cup and the club’s youngest to make a first-team start.
