Harry Brook, the England batter, was agonizingly close to a century in the recent Test match against India in the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy 2025, falling just one run short. At Headingley, after smashing a six off Prasidh Krishna, he was out attempting another big shot, caught by Shardul Thakur. This came after a series of missed chances for Brook, including two dropped catches by the Indian team. Over the past year, Brook has been dropped 13 times in Test matches, a testament to the opportunities he has received.
Brook’s dismissal on 99 put him in a group of other unfortunate English batsmen who have been dismissed on the same score. Jonny Bairstow was the last to suffer a similar fate in 2017, against South Africa. Brook also became the third batter dismissed on 99 at Headingley.
India concluded the England innings at 465 runs, starting their second innings with a slim lead of 6 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a century in the first innings, was dismissed early in the second. KL Rahul, however, managed to reach a half-century. The English innings saw some rain showers during day 3.
