Suryakumar Yadav T20I Captain: On Thursday, July 18, BCCI announced the Indian team for the 3-match T20 and the same number of ODI series against Sri Lanka. According to which Rohit Sharma will lead the ODI team while Shubman Gill has been made the vice-captain. Suryakumar Yadav has been given the command of the T20 team.

The decision to give Suryakumar the captaincy of India’s T20 team was quite shocking for the Indian fans, because the main contender for this post was considered to be Hardik Pandya, who was also the vice-captain of Team India in the T20 World Cup 2024. If this question is arising in your mind too, then let us tell you that the consent of 3 veterans played an important role in making Surya the captain of the team. Who are those 3 veterans? Let’s know.

According to media reports, after a two-day online meeting of BCCI, it was decided to make Suryakumar Yadav the captain. Rohit Sharma, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Head Coach Gautam Gambhir were present in this meeting held in the presence of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. According to reports, Hardik Pandya had refused to play ODIs due to personal reasons, due to which the captaincy of the T20 team was handed over to Suryakumar Yadav. The consent of Rohit Sharma, Ajit Agarkar and Gautam Gambhir was important in making Suryakumar Yadav the captain. The feedback received from the players also decided in favor of Surya.

Why did Shubhaman become the vice captain

It is worth noting that Hardik Pandya had refused to play ODIs, so BCCI chose Shubman Gill as the vice-captain for the future. Rohit Sharma is 37 and T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is 33 years old, while Gill is 24 years old. This decision was taken to give Gill the experience of captaincy. Due to Hardik’s continuous poor fitness and Pant’s return after a car accident, Gill became a better option. Recently, under Gill’s captaincy, Team India won the T20 series against Zimbabwe 4-1. In the 5 matches of this series, Gill scored 170 runs at an average of 42.50.
