Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre are two young cricketers making waves and are viewed as key prospects for Indian cricket. They are currently representing India in Australia with the Under-19 team. The critical question is: which player will get the nod to play for the senior Indian team first?
Former Indian player Ambati Rayudu provided his views on this debate. In a recent interview, Rayudu was asked to choose between Suryavanshi and Mhatre for the Indian team. Rayudu, chose Vaibhav Suryavanshi and explained why.
Rayudu stated that, based on the way Suryavanshi has been playing at a young age, he anticipates Suryavanshi will be the first to make it to the Indian team. He praised his bat swing, even comparing it to Lara and advising him to focus on his game, ignoring unsolicited advice.
Comparing their records, Suryavanshi is preparing to play his ninth Under-19 ODI on the Australian tour. He has scored 432 runs in the previous eight matches, with an average of 54, which included a highest score of 143. He has scored 198 runs in four innings of Under-19 Tests. Moreover, his strike rate in U19 T20s has been excellent.
Looking at Mhatre’s performance, he has scored only 82 runs in eight U19 ODIs for India. In Test cricket, he has accumulated 340 runs in two innings, with an average of 85.
