The 2025 US Open men’s singles final will feature a match between the world’s top two players: Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. This final will be the third Grand Slam final these two players have competed in this year. Alcaraz of Spain secured his place in the final by defeating Novak Djokovic of Serbia in the semi-finals, while Italy’s Sinner advanced by defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime. The final is scheduled for September 7th and could be attended by former US President Donald Trump.
Donald Trump may attend the US Open singles final, marking his first appearance at the event since 2015. He has not attended the tournament in New York City since becoming president in 2016. A decade ago, he attended the US Open with his wife, Melania. Six-time major champion John McEnroe welcomed Trump at that time. Trump, 79, was born in the Queens borough of New York City, where the tournament is held. Trump may be present at the final match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, both of whom won their semi-final matches.
In the first semi-final, world number two Carlos Alcaraz defeated 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (4), 6-2, earning his spot in the final. The match, held at Arthur Ashe Stadium, lasted 2 hours and 23 minutes. Alcaraz maintained a flawless record, not dropping a set, and is aiming for his sixth major title and a second title at Flushing Meadows. Since April, Alcaraz has dominated, with a 44-2 record and finals appearances in his last eight tour-level matches. Alcaraz won the French Open in June, while Sinner defeated Alcaraz at Wimbledon in July, seeking revenge for the earlier defeat. Sinner hopes to replicate that performance.
In the second semi-final, world number one Jannik Sinner defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, advancing to his fifth Grand Slam final. This marks Sinner’s fourth Grand Slam final appearance this season. As the current US Open champion, Sinner has been in excellent form throughout the tournament. This final will be the third time Sinner and Alcaraz have played each other in a Grand Slam final. Their previous encounters were in the Roland Garros and Wimbledon finals, where Alcaraz won the French Open and Sinner won Wimbledon.
Moreover, Sinner’s win against Felix Auger-Aliassime marked his 300th career victory, making him the first player born in the 21st century to achieve this milestone. He is also the fourth player in the Open Era to reach the finals of all Grand Slams in a single year. Rod Laver (1969), Roger Federer (2006, 2007, 2008), and Novak Djokovic (2015, 2021, 2023) had previously accomplished this. Sinner is the youngest player to achieve this, doing so at 24 years old.
