Following the first Test between West Indies and Australia in Barbados, West Indies head coach Daren Sammy voiced his concerns about the umpiring, specifically decisions made by TV umpire Adrian Holdstock. He highlighted several questionable calls, particularly on the second day of the match. Sammy sought clarification and consistency in decision-making from the match referee, as the West Indies team believed certain calls had been unfavorable. Australian players also voiced concerns about some of the decisions. Sammy stressed the importance of fair play and trust in the umpires, indicating the team would focus on their gameplay regardless of the controversies. He advised his players to avoid making public comments regarding the decisions. He was quoted as saying that he was trying to understand the process and hoped for consistency. Sammy also noted he had observed this particular umpire’s decision-making in England, finding it frustrating. Sammy stated that it was important not to have any doubts about the umpires before a Test match. When asked if West Indies would be formally complaining, Sammy deferred the question.
