Pakistan suffered a comprehensive defeat in the final ODI against the West Indies, resulting in a series loss. The West Indies, under the leadership of captain Shai Hope, secured a 2-1 series win. This victory meant the end of a 34-year-old record for Pakistan. Specifically, under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy, Pakistan experienced a series loss against the West Indies that had not occurred since 1991.
The West Indies, batting first in the third ODI, scored 294 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in their 50 overs. Captain Shai Hope significantly contributed to this large score, leading his team with his batting. Hope scored a century, his 18th in ODI cricket and his second against Pakistan. He scored an unbeaten 120 runs off just 94 balls, including 10 fours and 5 sixes. Hope’s explosive batting led to the West Indies adding 109 runs in the final 8 overs without losing a wicket, after having scored 185 runs for 6 wickets after 42 overs.
Pakistan needed 295 runs to win the series decider, but struggled to chase this target. The entire Pakistani team was unable to reach even 100 runs, with the team getting all out for 92 in the third ODI. The West Indies won the match by 202 runs, which is their largest victory against Pakistan in terms of runs. This surpassed their previous record of a 150-run win in a 2015 ODI in Christchurch.
This is only the fourth time in ODI cricket that the West Indies has won with a margin of 200 or more runs. While Captain Shai Hope was excellent with the bat, Jayden Seales dominated with the ball, dismantling the Pakistani team. He took 6 wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs, achieving his career-best performance.
The West Indies not only won the third ODI but also the series. This resulted in the end of Pakistan’s 34-year record of not losing an ODI series to the West Indies under Mohammad Rizwan’s captaincy. The West Indies has won an ODI series against Pakistan for the first time since 1991. This is also their first series win against Pakistan in any format since the year 2000.
