Yuzvendra Chahal, the prominent Indian leg-spinner, has provided a candid update on his health, confirming a diagnosis of both dengue and chikungunya. This dual infection has necessitated a temporary halt to his cricketing career. The star player, who was recently retained by Punjab Kings for a substantial sum, shared his condition on Thursday, December 18th. His last competitive appearance was for Haryana on November 30th, and his illness prevented him from playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final.
In a heartfelt message to his team and followers, Chahal expressed his frustration at being sidelined. “Unfortunately, I am down with dengue and chikungunya, which have really taken a toll on my health,” he stated. Medical advice has directed him to prioritize rest and recuperation. “I’ll be back on the field and bowling at my full strength soon,” Chahal added, signaling his strong intent to return to the game.
The spinner has not set a firm return date but is reportedly eager to resume playing by the time the Vijay Hazare Trophy commences on December 24th. Chahal has been away from the Indian national team setup since the T20 World Cup, and his last international outing was in August 2023. Earlier this year, he played county cricket in England for Northamptonshire, showcasing his enduring skill and form in various formats. His impactful county performances, including a five-wicket haul, have been noted, and he was a key retention for Punjab Kings, highlighting his value in the IPL.
