Foxconn is set to begin producing iPhone casings in India, expanding Apple’s manufacturing presence. The company is establishing a new unit within the ESR industrial park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, dedicated to the manufacturing of metal enclosures for iPhones. This represents a significant development in Foxconn’s involvement in Apple’s Indian supply chain, going beyond the assembly of devices.
This strategic move aims to enhance Foxconn’s domestic capabilities and reduce its dependence on China amidst global trade uncertainties. While the value of iPhone casings represents a small percentage of overall production value, establishing this capability in India highlights Apple’s growing reliance on the nation. Construction of the new unit is underway and will be adjacent to another Foxconn plant assembling iPhone display modules.
