Apple is preparing to launch new products on September 9, with new iPhones, smartwatches, and peripherals set to be unveiled. This launch is seen as a key opportunity for Apple to compete with rivals like Samsung, Google, and Chinese manufacturers like Huawei and Xiaomi. The company is focusing on hardware advancements to retain customers within its ecosystem, especially as its current operating system lacks substantial AI upgrades.
Apple is planning to introduce significant design changes to the iPhone lineup for the first time in five years. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will feature redesigned backs to enhance the appearance of the camera areas. In addition, Apple will launch the iPhone Air, which will feature an ultra-thin design. The company will be launching four new iPhone models during the event, but a budget SE model will not be released.
The iPhone Air will be just 5.5mm thick, making it substantially thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro. This thinner design may result in reduced battery life and the inclusion of only a single rear camera. Apple plans to release a new battery case to improve battery life. The iPhone 17 Air will feature the A19 processor, a 6.6-inch screen, a USB-C port, ProMotion support, and eSIM-only support. It will also feature Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi chip and C1 modem. The iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will switch back to an aluminum frame to improve heat dissipation, replacing the titanium frame used in the iPhone 15 Pro. The standard iPhone 17 will retain its design but will feature a larger 6.3-inch screen. Additional upgrades include a new chip, ProMotion for the non-Pro model, and Qualcomm modems for both regular and Pro versions. New accessories, including a revamped non-leather case, an iPhone 4 Bumper-like case, and a high-end cross-body strap, will also be available.
For wearables, Apple is planning significant updates. The Apple Watch Ultra 3 will have a larger screen, the new S11 chip, 5G Redcap support, and satellite text messaging/emergency features. The new watch will aim to increase screen brightness. The Apple Watch SE will get a faster chip and a new display. Health upgrades, including hypertension detection, are in development. The AirPods Pro 3 will be launched with a heart rate monitor and a smaller charging case, along with a live translation feature for AirPods.
