Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Department of Post (DoP) have formed a strategic alliance. This partnership will enable consumers to purchase BSNL SIM cards and recharge their phones via post offices throughout India.
The collaboration will utilize over 1.65 lakh post offices as sales points, offering convenience especially to those in rural and distant regions.
Under the terms, BSNL will provide SIM card inventory and training to post office staff for customer service. The Department of Post will manage new connections and recharge services in a safe and standard manner.
The government expects this alliance to bring BSNL’s services closer to people in rural and backward areas, supporting initiatives like Digital India, financial inclusion, and socio-economic progress.
A pilot project conducted in Assam proved successful, leading to a nationwide rollout. The MoU was signed in Delhi.
This partnership combines the strong network of India Post and BSNL’s telecom expertise, ensuring accessible and affordable connectivity. The cooperation will make BSNL services available across the entire country.
The agreement is scheduled for one year, starting on September 17, with the option of extension. Both departments will review the progress each month while strictly enforcing cybersecurity and data privacy measures.
